The 2012 Year of the Dragon 1 oz Gilded Silver Coin is made of 1 oz of .999 fine silver and comes in a red and black presentation case with a Certificate of Authenticity (COA). The dragon on reverse has been gilded with 24k gold. The 2012 Year of the Dragon is the fifth design of the Perth Mint's Lunar Series 2 famous Chinese Lunar Calendar line.
1916, 1928, 1940, 1952, 1964, 1976, 1988, 2000, and 2012 are Years of the Dragon. The reverse shows a gilded traditional Chinese dragon rippling through the sky and reaching for the mystical "Pearl of Wisdom." Below the dragon is the inscription, “Year of the Dragon,” while the Chinese character for Dragon appears on the right side of the dragon. The “P” mint mark of the Perth Mint is on the far right, next to the dragon’s tail.
